Ireton is quintessential "small town" Iowa. Our 600 friendly residents enjoy a safe and clean environment, caring neighbors, affordable housing, excellent educational opportunities and a short, easy commute to larger towns and cities.
The farmland surrounding Ireton was settled in the early 1870's. In 1882, area residents were excited to learn that a railroad line was coming through Reading Township and that a water stop called "Ireton" would be located in section 7. Within a few months of the announcement, Ireton was home to several general stores, a grain elevator, blacksmith and other businesses. Those early settlers passed along strong values -- family, faith, neighborliness, education, hard work and an appreciation for the fertile land surrounding us. We are rooted in those values as we move into a future filled with opportunity in one of Iowa's fastest growing counties.
Sit back, relax and explore what Ireton offers -- beautiful parks and recreation facilities, active churches and organizations, thriving businesses and more. We've also included an extensive history section so that you may learn about Ireton's past and those of you with family connections may learn more about your "roots".
Please enjoy a glimpse of Ireton through our website - and if you are ever in our "neck of
the woods corn and soybean fields", we hope you'll take time to say hello and stay awhile ... or a lifetime.
